Student Volunteer Recruitment for Time Bank App

Want to know more about how to improve elderly’s living by information technologies and Artificial Intelligence? Wish to participate in a meaningful extra-curricular activity in the summer? Here is your opportunity!

The HINCare Group, led by Dr. Reynold Cheng of HKUCS, is developing advanced IT technologies for Time Bank, which uses “service time as currency”; helpers and recipients can save their time credits (e.g., for providing domestic cleaning services to others) in their “bank accounts”, and use them later (e.g., for purchasing purchase goods). Time Bank, which promotes “productive aging”, is now widely used in many parts of the world.

HINCare aims to develop a Time Bank system for the Shing Kung Hui Tsang Kwan O Elderly Center (STE, 聖公會將軍澳安老服務大樓), a large elderly-care organization in Hong Kong. STE will organize a Time Bank Bazaar (織福大笪地) on 25th June Tue afternoon, to promote the app. The Bazaar will have various booths selling home-made snacks, handicrafts and Chinese drawings, made by the elderly of STE. The elders will also share their life stories in interactive sessions with the participants.

We are now looking for a large number of Cantonese-speaking students to help promoting the Time Bank app, through TWO activities:

· Time Bank Bazaar (25th June afternoon): Promote our Time Bank app to elders, and input transaction data to the Time Bank system.

· Time Bank App training (27th July afternoon): Assist elders to use the Time Bank app.

When you participate in the above, you automatically become a Time Bank member, and you earn time credits because of your work!

Behind the scene: The Time Bank App performs A.I. on a large knowledge base, in order to provide intelligent recommendation services. Student volunteers can cultivate more understanding of the HINCare project, and will be considered to join our team (e.g., as research assistant or final year project student doing cloud-based system implementation).

How to join? Interested Cantonese-speaking students please indicate availability for any of the above two events, which in be held in STE (10 minute-walk from MTR Po Lam Station).

For more details, please refer to the poster attached (in Chinese). Email to Ms Poki Chan (pkchan@cs.hku.hk) for enrollment and further information. Space is limited! Act quick!
